Send New Books
You can easily donate a book through Jane's Wish List, and ask your friends to do the same.

Every time you go to Jane's Wish List through www.tanashabitat.com and buy a book (you can buy any books you want… they don't have to be on the wish list), Amazon will issue us a credit so that we can buy more books.

Choose reference books, your favorite childhood books, picture books for older children... any English-language books are welcome.  Please donate hardcover books if you can. They last longer.

Send used books
You don't have to send new books! If you've got a ton of books in good condition lying around, we'll take those too.

How do I get them to Africa?
There's a great way to send books to Africa on the cheap. It's called an M-Bag and you'll find it at any US Post Office.

  1. Take your books to your local post office in a box. Write Jane Duncan's address on the box so that if the tag falls off the bag, the bag can still make it to Aranos.
  2. Tell the clerk that you want to ship everything in an M-Bag.
  3. They will give you a bag (literally) to put the box of books into.
  4. They will then ask you to fill out a PS 158 tag with Jane's address in Namibia and your return address.
  5. They will then ask you to fill out a customs form PS 2976. You'll find it on the counter with all the other forms. Declare the value as $0.00 and identify the contents as "Used Books" or something very boring.

How much it costs
A volunteer in Montana wrote that she mailed 25 lbs of books for $26.00. The postal clerk said the mail would arrive in Namibia in four to six weeks. Two to four months is probably more like it, so send soon!
