Reading is fundamental
by Ellen Olson-Brown

The Word | Periodicals | ViewMaster | Toity Tips

I admit it. I read in the bathroom. Anything I can get my hands on. Magazines, catalogs, newspapers, photo albums. I've even resorted to band-aid boxes and shampoo bottles. Fearing my reading habits were weird, I used to sneak books and magazines in under my shirt like a common criminal.

But now I know the truth. We are a nation of bathroom bibliophiles! As technology makes it feel like someone may barge in on us at any time, a closed bathroom door delineates one of the few sacred spaces still available. Only very small children or the criminally insane would dare interrupt this moment of private porcelain contemplation. Bathroom reading feels peaceful and luxurious, the same way that reading People on an airplane does. What else are you going to do?

As long as you, your family, and your guests are committed to spending quality time on the throne, why not make the experience as enjoyable - and educational-as possible!

Got a great idea? Know something we don't know? Or maybe there's something you want to know? Write it up. Let us know. Submit an article, an idea or a plain old question. Let the cohabitation begin.
