Don't Despair!
Try Dorm Room Repair!
by Tana March

Bed Time | Lighten Up | Sheets To Dye For

No doubt, dorms are dull. And with all those silly rules about no paint or nails, it's hard to see beyond that tiny blank box.

Fear not! With a little creativity, a couple bucks and a theme, you can be the envy of your hall.

Beach on the brain
Try an Island motif on for size and you may just feel like it's spring break all year round.
Bed Time
  • Cut up a grass skirt or two and attach them to your bed frame with hot glue to make a bed skirt.
  • Sew two colorful sheets together on three sides to make a duvet cover. Decorate the top by sewing different color fabrics to make a palm tree or hibiscus flowers.
  • Make pillowcases with wave fabric or cut out surfboards or hula dancers from different materials and sew them on. Use a grass skirt as fringe around the edges!
  • Make your own tie-died sheets.
Time Management
  • Cover your bulletin board with Astroturf. Hot glue plastic orchids from a lei onto push pins to keep your assignments straight.
  • Make a clock from a vintage Beach Boys or Don Ho album cover.
