Uncle Sam Saving Strategies
By Stephanie Mantello

Intro | Deductions | Donate | Party

So many deductions, so little time
There are lots of expenses that can qualify to be deducted. Here are some that are often overlooked: Work expenses– magazine subscriptions related to your job, office supplies, even uniforms (and cleaning expenses) can be deducted if you pay for them out of your own pocket.

Continuing education
Classes that improve your work skills and are related to your current job may be deducted. This includes books, supplies, and travel costs, as well as tuition.

State tax
State income tax can be deducted from your federal tax, so if you owe state taxes, it can actually work in your favor! In addition, you may be able to deduct the fees paid to your state for car registration and licensing.

Career counseling
Expenses related to finding a new job in your field are deductible even if you don't end up getting a new position.

Accountant fees
Financial subscriptions, tax advice, and tax preparation fees are all deductible, so get some help with your finances if you need it!
