Dorm Room Style

The Fridge | What? No Coffee? | Paper Clips

Don’t Drink Coffee?
It’s time to start. A large percentage of schools do not allow microwaves, hot plates, or toaster ovens in the dorm rooms. However, they do allow coffee makers (again, first check with your school’s office of housing and residence). “But I don’t drink coffee!” Who cares? A little hot water can go a long way insofar as preparing dried soups, noodles, and the like. And who doesn’t like an occasional cup of hot cocoa? You’d be surprised what a coffee maker and a little ingenuity can get you.

The Iron—it’s really a college girl’s best friend
There are about a zillion things an iron and two pieces of wax paper can make you. You’ve got to press your clothes anyway so why leave this one at home? Grab a few pieces of bread, cheese, and meat of your choice and iron your little heart out. Please, don’t forget the wax paper, sure you’re broke, but think of all the money you’ll be saving on grease stained clothes.

The Spork
I know, sounds like something off Star Trek. These handy-dandy plastic utensils are a spoon and fork all rolled into one. Therein you can stab a crisp piece of lettuce, or scoop a heap of split pea soup without having to further the landfills with yet another plastic throwaway item. You’re in college now. It’s time to start thinking about the environment, and your pocket book. Get yourself a box or bag. They will save on buying both spoon and fork. Remember waste not, want not. Wash them in your sink and reuse, reuse, reuse.
