Breaking Bread Down
By Carra Gamberdella
Intro | Too Good To Be True? | Bake It | Spread It

Spread It On!
While you’re waiting for your loaf to bake, make the most of your impatience by whipping up some fun bread spreads. While tasty, butter, jam, and peanut butter are a bit passé. Try these more modern concoctions.

Blueberry Butter Spread:
Butter’s wonderful, but blueberry butter is even better. Combine 2 sticks of softened butter, 1 cup of fresh blueberries (frozen will work, but fresh is better), and ¼ cup of confectioner’s sugar. This spread is great on white, wheat, and even corn bread.

Avocado Spread
Corn bread is the perfect terrain for this southwestern spread. Mash one ripe avocado with a generous tablespoon of salsa. Add a dash of limejuice, and salt and pepper to taste.

Cucumber-Dill Spread
This spread is great on most any non-sweet bread. Combine 8 oz. of softened cream cheese, 1 cup of mayonnaise, 2 cups of finely chopped cucumbers (it’s best if you take the seeds out first), 2 Tbsp of chopped onion, 1 Tbsp lemon juice, 2 Tbsp of fresh dill, and ½ tsp of hot sauce. Then spread it on!

Bright Idea: Call cucumber dill spread a dip and serve with raw veggies!
