A Toast to the Holidays
By Jennifer Chan
Intro | Eggnog | Cider | Godiva | Bellini | Chill Factor

Eggnog
A drink that has become synonymous with the holidays started off as a drink that only upper-class Englishmen drank to toast health and welcome in the New Year. A holiday party would be incomplete without eggnog to loosen up the crowd. You can be an egghead and buy a box from the grocery store, but nothing says love than with the word “homemade”.

What you’ll need:

6 eggs
1/ 2 pint rum
1/2 pint brandy
2 pints heavy whipping cream
6 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon salt

Directions:

  1. Separate the whites from the yolks. Set the whites aside and beat egg yolks well.
  2. Add granulated sugar, liquor, and slowly add enough whipping cream to make a pale yellow color
  3. Whip remaining cream with powdered sugar and fold into the mixture.
  4. Stir in vanilla, nutmeg, and salt.
  5. Refrigerate, covered, for 3 hours.
  6. Beat egg whites until stiff, and fold in.
  7. Sprinkle nutmeg on top and serve in a punch bowl.
