Party in the Pantry
By Amy Cook
Pantry O Pantry | Gut It | Get Organized | Fill 'er Up

Get organized
Now you’re ready to map out your new food storage system. As you plan, remember the three ideal conditions of a perfect pantry:

Dry
Humidity fosters the growth of mold and causes crackers and cereals to go undesirably soggy. Keep all bulk products in moisture-proof containers with reliably airtight lids. If you live in a moist climate, keep an open box of baking soda on the shelves and change it regularly.

Dark
Light causes accelerated deterioration of nutrients. Therefore, when using clear jars for storage, hang a door curtain to shield exposed goods from the light. Otherwise, choose opaque containers.

Cool
The ideal temperature for food storage is 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Air temperatures lower than 40 degrees or higher than 80 degrees will cause food to quickly spoil. Avoid storing food near heating ducts, ovens, or refrigerator motors.
