Hosting a Tea Party on the Cheap
By Kristine Hansen
Intro | Tea | Snack And Chat

Tea begins with tea
Before you start deciding between floral or plaid tablecloths, think about what kind of tea you’d like to serve your style-conscious guests. My recommendation? Chai. An Indian drink, it's black tea with cloves, cardamon, peppercorn, fresh sliced ginger, and steamed milk. If you or your guests are on a strict vegetarian diet, soy or rice milk works fine. Most grocery stores sell a chai-flavored powder mix which, when added with hot water, tastes wonderful.

Girl Power
Do you have more visitors than you expected at your tea? Try something to cure your PMS? Use peppermint or ginger tea to calm obnoxious stomach cramps. Medicinal herbal teas (stuff like lemon echinacia, chamomile, or raspberry) help cure ailments like a sore throat or headaches.

Personally, I prefer loose-leaf tea for higher quality and a greater variety of taste. Your local market might carry these brands: Serendipitea, Honest Tea, and Republic of Tea.
