Just a Simple Girl in a High Tech Digital World
by Jennifer Cordero
Intro | The Beginning | My Baby | Writer’s Block | Stamp of Approval

Sing it, Jewel! Cell phones, email, instant messaging, text messaging, pagers! I say get rid of them all! Give me simplicity or give me death! I long for the bygone days of summer camp, care packages and hand written letters from home. Think about it. When was the last time you really looked forward to opening your mailbox? Sure, there are the monthly subscriptions, the seasonal cards and occasional invitations, but a letter? In this high tech, spinning out of control world it’s almost unheard of.

A handwritten letter can be a powerful thing. The time taken to carefully choose the right words to properly express your most sincere sentiments, to decorate or illustrate a letter just to brighten the recipient's day, to record your thoughts on paper and document your feelings and mere existence in the universe are tangible and delicate statements to be read, re-read, and read again.

Writing a letter can also be fun. Handmade stationery and stylish envelopes say something about you before your reader even slits open the seal.

So hang up that phone. Turn off your modem. Forget about immediate gratification for once. Sit right down and write someone a personal letter. I bet they'll think it's something worth waiting for.
