Perfect attendance
Do you know anyone who never misses a day of work, school, or church? These “perfect
attendance” junkies never miss a day no matter what obstacle might
come their way. You know the ones who drag themselves to work with walking
pneumonia or crawl to church and proclaim, “I haven’t missed
a day in 40 years and a little case of the shingles isn’t going to
keep me away.” A week later your entire office has been hospitalized
and the church can no longer have services because the entire congregation
is quarantined.
No matter how hard it is to stay home when you’re sick and contagious,
you must think of those around you who are currently healthy that you
might “infect” with your germs.
Dessert denied
About five years ago, I landed tickets and an interview with one of my
favorite bands, Cake. I was so excited to see them in concert and have
the opportunity to interview them, but the day before the concert,
I got an adult case of chicken pox and had to cancel at the last minute.
This killed me because I didn’t feel that bad, but knew if I
went to the concert and rubbed up against everyone (festival seating)
with a fresh and contagious case of chicken pox that I would be endangering
the health of anyone in attendance and I didn’t want to do that.
No one deserves to have chicken pox, so as a result, I sat in my apartment,
spotted and speckled, and kept my chicken pox to myself.
