Sick Etiquette

The not-so-friendly skies
Sometimes you’ve got to suck it up and fly when you’re sick. I always wish that you didn’t (especially since you somehow find a seat next to me) for your own health and the health of others.

Don’t try to tough it out without a quick trip to the doctor’s office. Your doctor can get you started on a round of medications or suggestions to help you to feel better sooner. If your ears are bothering you on the ground, they’re sure to be one hundred times as bad once you’re thousands of feet above ground.

After you’ve stopped by your doc and found a good plan of action, you might want to swallow your pride and purchase a medical mask. You can ask your doctor or pharmacist about what type of mask is appropriate for your situation. A medical mask worn by the sick person benefits the healthy passengers. The mask will help to contain your “germ cloud” and hopefully deflect any of those “out of nowhere” sneezes. Think of it as your good deed for the day.
