Sparkle | Patch | Fringe | Paint & Stiches | Care & Cleaning

The Fringéd Calvins of Thine Hand Advance and Wear What Thou Makest Yond.

This idea came to me while watching a scene in a movie about dancing the "Charleston". I've always loved the way fringe moves and flows. It's so organic somehow.

  1. Wrap a measuring tape all the way around the leg of your pants leg to find the circumference.

  2. Cut a piece of ½ inch width velcro (front and back) and a piece of woven ribbon to this length. Put the ribbon and the back of the velcro aside for later.

  3. Thread a needle with strong thread and tie the two ends together.

  4. String a couple inches of beads on the thread and stitch onto the edge of your velcro (front) and knot.

  5. Cut the thread and put a dot of Fabritac or other fabric glue on the knots to secure it. Continue fringing until you've done the entire length.

  6. Glue your pre-cut ribbon onto the velcro (front) to cover the stitching.

  7. Stitch or glue the back of the velcro onto your jeans where you'd like the fringe placed.

  8. Remove fringe/ velcro for an easy wash day solution. Alternatives: feathers, faux mink tails or silk fringe.

Bright Idea #1: Border the bottom of you pants with one row of fringe.

Bright Idea #2: Test your patience. Make several rows of fringe and attach them from just below the knee down for the full "Flapper" feel.
