Hats Off To Felted Sweaters
by Tana March

Supplies | Felting | Cut It Out | Fancy Hat | Tassle

Want to get fancy? Hunker down and make this awesome Peruvian Chuyo.

What You'll Need:
Felted sweater
Sewing machine and thread
Paper and pencil
Scissors
Yarn
Straight pins
Embroidery needle
  1. Draw the pattern below onto a piece of paper. Include the letters.
  2. Measure your head. The distance between points A and B should be this number plus one-inch.
  3. The distance between F and G should be 10 inches.
  4. The distance between E and H should be 7 inches.
  5. Once the pattern is sized, fold it in half. Place the fold along the side seam (fold) of sweater and pin it in place.
  6. Cut out the pattern through both layers of the sweater and remove all pins.
  7. Choose which side of fabric you want on the outside of your hat. We'll call this "the good side."
  8. With the good sides facing each other place, C and D together. Use a sewing machine to stitch along the edge. Leave a quarter inch seam allowance.
  9. Place D to E and stitch together.
  10. Place E to F and stitch together.
  11. Place F to C and stitch from top to bottom to close the hat.
