Lose the pre-fab look of layers. Get crafty and give your new tanks and
tees a custom flavor.
- Trim the edges. Use a pair of sharp scissors to cut off the
hems of sleeves, the bottom and the necklines of some cute vintage
tees.
- Cut the neckline from shoulder to for a pretty boat neck top.
- Regular tee shirt sleeves cut on an angle lend a feminine and flattering
touch.
- Cut the bottom of a tee or tank to control were the line crosses
your waist or hips.
Remember, that the edges will roll up slightly over the first few washes
so leave about a half inch of extra length when cutting.
- Punk out with colored magic markers to get your message across.
For a traditional punk look, the best color is black. But bright
Day-Glo green, orange, purple and red are also hot. Mix it up.
- Draw racing stripes down the side seams for a subtle detail.
- Run the side of the marker tip along a newly cut edge before washing.
- Write a message that means something to your and your friends instead
of someone else’s logo.

Bright Idea: Make it easy on
yourself. Lay the tee on a hard flat surface (like your boyfriend's
stomach?). Insert a piece of cardboard inside
and hold it flat or tack it down with tape. |
