Wrap It Up
Scarves are the perfect cold weather accessories. Not only do they keep
your neck warm, but who doesn’t look good in a scarf? Not anyone
I know.
Brighten up your winter gear by painting your own silk scarf. The warmer
the colors, the hotter you’ll look.
What you’ll need:
A white silk scarf
Water in a spray bottle
Rubber gloves
Spray-on fabric paint
Foam brush
|
 |
- Lay your scarf flat on a well-protected surface. Try using cardboard;
newspaper print may transfer to the fabric.
- Mist water over the entire scarf to dampen it.
- Now don your rubber gloves and spray on your fabric paint. The water
you misted in step three will help give the scarf a watercolor
effect, so try to use colors that will blend well, like red and
yellow. If you
want, you can use the foam brush to spread any drips of paint.
- Set the color by ironing the scarf on a low setting. (Read: don’t
burn it!)
- Mist the scarf again with water.
- If you want the scrunch effect (and I recommend it!), twist
your scarf until it twists back the other way by itself.
- Hold the scarf in place with rubber bands and allow it
a few days to dry, then untwist it.

Bright Idea: Can't find a white silk scarf? Make one. Buy the fabric
at a craft store and finish off the scarf’s edges on your sewing
machine. To do this, make a simple hem on all four sides, as narrow
as you can. Then make a second hem to create a clean edge. |
You’ve done it! Now you’re completely outfitted with flip-flops,
a tote bag, and a cool, painted and scrunched scarf. Say good-bye to
winter and hello to the hot new you! |
