Cocktail wear or semi-formal
Just about every dance in high school is semi-formal and there’s a reason why. A semi-formal event allows a wide variety of options. Invitations often state “cocktail wear” in lieu of semi-formal, but similar standards apply. The most appropriate attire includes the “little black dress” or pants (either tailored or formal) with a festive blouse or sweater. Men should wear suits or slacks with a jacket or sports coat and a tie.
