The history of knitting
I’ve always thought that in order to truly appreciate something, you have to understand its history. I’m told that’s what makes me so lame, so I will try to make it as entertaining as possible.

The origins of knitting are shrouded in mystery. Not a soul knows exactly where this craft began. Some say Persia, others Israel, the far reaches of Jordan, or even the peaks of the North African mountains.

The oldest relic exists in the form of a pair of socks found in an ancient Egyptian tomb. Scientists have determined that these were made somewhere between the third and sixth centuries.

The first documented instances of this art form are referred to as the Knitting Madonnas, portraits from the fourteenth century of the Virgin Mary needles in hand. By the sixteenth century, knitting was a massive industry in Europe, and it has stayed that way ever since.
