Knit Wit
By Noelle Valdivia
Intro | History | Cast On | Knit | Bind Off
How to cast on
Casting on is how you begin to knit. It refers to the process of placing the very first row of stitches onto your needle.
  1. With your palm facing you, wrap the yarn around two of your fingers so that the yarn attached to the ball crosses the front of the tail of the yarn.

  1. Push the side attached to the ball up through the circle formed on your fingers so that that you have a tiny loop on top.

  1. Hold that loop and pull down on the tail to form a slip knot.

  2. Slide this knot firmly around one of your needles and tighten it.

  3. Hold the needle in your right hand and hold onto the yarn running to the ball with your left hand.

  1. Spin your wrist to wrap the yarn once around your thumb and insert the point of the needle through the hole that has formed in the yarn around your thumb.

  1. Pull your thumb out and tighten the loop onto the needle.
  1. Repeat this as many times as you like. How many knots you end up with will determine the width of your garment.
