Drop It | Whino | Thank God

Take Care Of Yourself
Finding your new job is work, but it's not 24/7 work. Take some time for yourself.

Drop that Ding-Dong, buster!
Watch the diet. It's easy to start wallowing in junk food. You'll regret it. Now might be a good time to investigate the yellow, orange and green things you usually leave untouched on your plate. (They're called vegies, they're good for you and they're cheap. Try 'em. Some of them actually taste good!)

1 - 2 - 3, KICK! Exercise!
You don't want to go back into the workforce heavier than when you left. You can't afford a new wardrobe right away. Exercise will not only ensure you burn some of those calories, but will clear and refresh your mind. Trust me, you need it.

Bread and roses.
YES! You're unemployed. YES! You need to look for a new job. But gluing your face to the want ads or computer monitor has bad effects. Take a day during the week to go visit someplace you would normally have to visit with the weekend hoards. Expand your mind by checking out the museums. Some of them have a day during the month when they are free if you're going to feel guilty about spending money on them. Or take a day trip to the really big library downtown and see what they have. Hop the train to the next big city and see what it's like there. You need to find a job (bread), but you need beauty and intellectual stimulation (roses) too.

Carpe Opportunity!
Look at this time as an opportunity to explore other career interests. Maybe you weren't meant to be an accountant. Maybe this is the time to explore your life long dream of being a tour guide! Most of us never get the chance to figure out what we would do if we had the chance. Sit down and decide what your dream job would be. See what skills you need to land that job and go get them now. There are some classes on the Internet that are free or cost a minimal charge. Check into government sponsored retraining. You may be able to get benefits AND training.

Ever wanted to be the head of the class? Now's your chance to swing the pointer! Channel Mrs. Raffetty, our crotchety old English teacher, and give us your commentary on the deterioration of language skills in America. Let the cohabitation begin.
