With Turkey Day nearing, we all look forward to gobbling football marathons, creative leftover concoctions, and of course, the unbelievable day after Thanksgiving sales.

But while anxious bargain hunters flock to malls, filled with the sounds of cash registers chiming and plastic swiping on Nov. 28, many around the world will be keeping a tight lock and key on their wallets in celebration of the other biggest event of the year: Buy Nothing Day.

Founded by ad exec turned anti-consumerist Kalle Lasn, creator of Adbusters magazine, and the anti-consumerism organization, Adbusters Media Foundation, Buy Nothing Day is a 24-hour shopping boycott to protest materialism and greed.
