Santa to the Stars
Having visited the homes of Rene Russo, Kirstie Alley, Burt Bacharach,
and the president, Brady White is just as famous as the celebrities
he works for. The 6’2, blue-eyed, white-bearded “Santa
to the Stars” can’t walk down the street without someone
recognizing him. When he steps out of a subway station in New York
City, truck drivers yell, “Yo, Santa!” On a photo shoot
in Tokyo, he had to be escorted away by police from a mob of people
bowing and repeating “Santa Son.” In Germany, where he’s
known as “Santa Klaus,” he was entrusted to serve as gatekeeper
at King Ludwig’s Neuschwanstein castle. True, he only guarded
the castle for five minutes, but Santa’s a busy man… he’s
got other duties to attend to.
White, a Rhode Island native, got his start 20 years ago in Hollywood.
Out of work and nine months behind on the rent, he took a job as a cotton-bearded
Santa at the Beverly Hills Mall. He won the Los Angeles Herald’s
search for the best Santa Claus in all of Southern California and got
a call from two agents the next day. One agent recommended he grow a
real beard, which would give him the opportunity to make upwards of $5,000
per day. White hasn’t shaved since 1984.
