Getting his pen name
Ted became Dr. Seuss
when he lost his position as editor-in-chief at the “ Jack-O-Lantern,” a
humorous publication of Dartmouth College . He was a mischievous kid,
and his position was taken away as a consequence of his throwing a party
that was against school guidelines. Geisel penned the name Seuss so he
could continue secretly contributing to the magazine without getting
caught by school authorities.
After graduating, he went on to a graduate program of Oxford University
to please his father. There he studied to become a professor, but Ted
was not very interested in school… not to mention, he ended up falling
in love with a fellow American student who admired his doodling and encouraged
him to be an artist. According to Seussville.com , Ted took
this woman's advice and headed back to the States to become a cartoonist.
Word has it that “Dr.” was added to Seuss for his father.
