So you're stuck at the laundromat and you're bored. Bored beyond belief. So you find yourself perusing the free newspapers. After about 30 seconds of editorial torture, you find the only thing remotely interesting…the personal ads.
The arc begins with a feeling of superiority, "Wow, look at all these desperate freaks!" Next comes wonder, "What could possibly compel someone to place an ADVERTISEMENT for a date? Who would answer? Does it work?" Then fear. "Will I die alone?" Finally, sheer terror sets in. "What if someone sees me reading these ads?"
Get a Grip
Hey, let's face it. If what you're doing isn't working, your modus operandi might be in need of adjustment. The only true loser is someone who sticks with something that isn't getting results.
Times Have Changed. Time has changed.
What do you do if you hate all your friends' friends?
Everyone you work with pees sitting down??
Your best friend's girlfriends' sister is a man?
You're company prohibits employee mingling?
You work from home?
You're a meter maid and every sane human loathes your existence?
With today's hectic pace, who has time to hang out with the old gang? Whether choosing to put personal lives on the backburner while focusing on the "career", following job opportunities to new cities, or simply working more hours to get ahead/stay afloat, people are more mobile, solitary. Our worlds become smaller as we fall into the routines of adulthood and the new people we come across have worlds of their own that become harder to access.
The Internet is now part of that routine, and the one place where more and more of us are finding common ground.
