Say Cheese
By Noelle Valdivia

Intro | Equipment | Technique | Your Part

Equipment
You don't have to have the best camera to take a good picture. In fact, a mistake a lot of people make is buying a fancy camera that they don't know how to use properly. All that will do is ensure a lousy picture. So pick something you're comfortable with, something you understand.

Digital or film?
Digital cameras may be an exciting new form of media, but the truth is that unless it is very high quality, you often sacrifice clarity and color for instant pictures. Also, unless you have a top shelf printer, the shots often end up sitting on your desktop instead of in your precious albums.

Speed freak
The numbers on film (100, 200, or 400) refer to how the film will react to light. For action shots, you will want a higher number, which will make the pictures clearer. For still shots, use a lower number. This will give you bright, vivid colors and less grain.
