Face Your Face
by Helen Lowe

Eat Right | Exercise | Wash | Moisturize & Exfolitate

Zits, bumps, blackheads, rashes, dry patches-- do any of these things apply to you? Love it, hate it, ignore it - but your skin is always with you, and always an indication of what's going on inside and outside your body. You may have to live with it, but you can change it. Have I got your attention?

Most people could benefit greatly by paying a little attention to their skin. Not only will better skin make you feel more confident, but doing things in the name of skin care may make you feel better overall. The bad news: there are no miracle cures. The good news: you have the power to make your own "cure". Diet, stress and hygiene are all reflected in your face, so your most successful remedy will be found in addressing all three. Make a commitment to yourself and give these six steps a try for one month. Chances are you'll see results reflected back at your in the mirror.

You Are What You Eat.
There are foods that are fine for some people, but "toxic" to others. Try to eliminate the following items from your menu for 4 weeks and see if you notice a difference in your face:
  • Caffeine (i.e. coffee, cola, and yes, "Mountain Dew")
  • Chocolate
  • Dairy products (try soy alternatives for a while)
  • Alcohol
  • Anything fried

At the same time, try to increase the following foods in your daily diet:
  • Water (it's nature's cleanser - so drink even more than you think you can stand)
  • Fresh fruits and vegetables (steamed or raw are best)

If you notice improvement, but are really jonesing for the "bad" stuff, try incorporating just a little of one thing at a time (like a little cheese or a single piece of fried chicken) and see if your skin can tolerate it. If not, go back a step; and once your system in cleaned out, test another item from your "off limits" list.
