Thanksgiving Around the World
By Jennifer Cordero
Intro | Oh Canada | Brazil | Korea | Moon Cake

Marvelous Night for a Moon Cake
China’s August Moon Festival also takes place on August 15th when the Chinese legend says the moon is at its most bright and round. According to legend the bright moon offers the perfect atmosphere for making and renewing friendships as well as romantic rendezvous and Chinese poets have told tales of long lost lovers finding their way back to each other on this magical night.

The traditional feast includes Moon Cakes (a golden brown skin with sweet bean-paste filling, some come with a cooked golden egg yolk inside to symbolize a moon), which are also given to friends and relatives as a sign of thanks. Other countries have similar celebrations of hearth and harvest as well. So while Americans may have the lock on big games and the Macy’s parade, Thanksgiving is a tradition we share with many others from around the globe.
